The Jacksonville men's rowing team completed a successful day of racing at FIRA in Sarasota.
"Overall, I'm really proud of these guys," said head coach Preston Weinard. "We had everyone on the team racing today and I'm proud of them repping JU well. Major kudos to the Varsity 8 and 4 boats for winning their races. Last week we barely lost to Florida Tech, and today we won by open water over those same boats, so those are really good race results. We've made improvements from last week and gotten better, and we'll look to do the same this week."
The team finished second overall in Team Points with 114.
The day started with Jacksonville's 1v8 winning in a field of nine boats, which included Embry-Riddle, Florida, Florida State and UCF. The 1v8 won by more than six seconds, which set the tone for the day for JU. The JV8 saw JU's 2v8 and 3v8 finish second and third, respectively. The 2v8 was just behind Embry-Riddle, who finished first in the event.
In the Varsity Pairs, JU's A pair finished in third, behind Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle, but ahead of Florida and South Florida. The men's Novice Eight saw JU also finish in third, this time behind Embry-Riddle and Florida. In the Varsity single, JU finished in fourth behind Florida State and a pair of boats from Embry-Riddle, and the men's JV four saw JU finish in second. The Dolphins had two boats compete in the open double, and the A boat took second while the B boat finished in fifth. In the Novice Four, JU finished in fifth and in the Varsity and 2v4 races, JU took first over a wealth of Florida schools.
