Men's Rowing Wraps Up Regular Season After Weekend at Dad Vail

CHERRY HILL, N.J.- The Jacksonville men's rowing team wrapped up its regular season at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, racing three Varsity Eight's on the weekend.

Jacksonville's Second Varsity Eight competed in the Grand final, competing for The Bayer Trophy, and took fifth place among an overall field of 12. They finished with a 6:28.279 time, seven seconds ahead of Rutgers, who finished in sixth. Temple claimed the Bayer Trophy with a first place finish.

The Dolphins Varsity Eight took home the silver medal in the petite final to wrap up the weekend of racing. Their 6:05.437 in the final was its fastest of the day, and just one-second behind Colgate, who finished in first. In the semi-final, the Dolphins had placed in fourth out of six teams, just seconds behind Delaware and St Josephs, and ahead of Lehigh and Fairfield.

Jacksonville men's rowing returns to action at the end of May for the IRA National Championships. Earlier this season, the Dolphins had clinched an automatic bid to the IRA's Varsity Eight for the first time in school history.

"The 2v turned it around for their semi final, which was great, and secured them a spot in the Grand Final," said head coach Preston Weinard after the race. "The Varsity eight had their best performance on Sunday, and duked it out with Colgate right to the end for a second place finish. It was a good dog fight of a race, and it  was also nice to come in second from the outside lane, which is rare. Our Varsity Eight had the mindset about earning everything, and having another opportunity to earn something this weekend, and they totally bought in."
