JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Seven Dolphins from Jacksonville's men's rowing team have been named to the Empher-Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association's (IRCA) Scholar Athlete list, the organization announced. This is the second consecutive year that the Dolphins have had seven athletes named to the list.
"I'm proud of these guys for setting a great example for our team and achieving so much as student-athletes," said head coach Preston Weinard. "I'm excited to see them recognized for all of their hard work!"
To qualify for the IRCA list, athletes must be in their second year of eligibility or higher, have competed in their program's top three boats during the current season or at the 2022 IRA Championship, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50.
The rowers who met the requirements and were named IRCA Scholar-Athletes are John Anthony, Nathan Fletcher, Davis Leonard, Jack McCarthy, EJ Sowash, Ryan Teofilo, and Campbell Veld. For Anthony, McCarthy, Sowash, and Veld, it's their second consecutive season earning the mark.
These Dolphins joined 638 rowers and coxswains across the country who met the criteria, which is a 22% increase from last year's total of 525.
