Women's Rowing Readies For NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The eight-time women's rowing Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Jacksonville Dolphins are set for a weekend of racing against the best boats in the country at the NCAA Championships.

"Racing at the NCAA's is an awesome opportunity," said head coach Mike Lane. "Jacksonville University gets to compete against some of the best universities in the world!  We are JU and we are proud to get out and race the heck out of this weekend!"

"I am so proud of our women. It has been my pleasure and honor to have the opportunity to work with them daily.  Our goals are simple, keep improving on the history we continue to make.  We intend to stay internal and row each race to the best of our ability, and if we do that, we will be the fastest JU women's team on record. "

Last week, the Dolphins claimed their third consecutive conference sweep at the league's annual regatta, which clinched the team their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. JU's 1v8 won their respective final by nearly 10 seconds, a time that was similar to the 2v4's 10 difference between them and the second closest boat. The Dolphins 1v4 and 2v8 won by 2.5 and six seconds, respectively, which resulted in JU's sweep.

A season ago, Jacksonville not only had the best finish in program history at the regatta, but also the best in MAAC history, beating a total of four boats on the third day of racing. This season, the team is striving to beat more boats, and continue its upward trajection that has been on display for nearly a decade.

The weekend of racing starts with time-trials on Friday. Results from there will put each team in a respective semi-final based on their performance in the time-trial. At the conclusion of the semi-final, boats will be placed in Finals labeled A-D, with the A final being the Grand Final.
